News-Sentinel editorial page editor Dan Osborne, his wife, Jane, and their 11-year old son, Ben were found murdered at their home in September 1983.   The couple's two-year-old daughter, Caroline, escaped injury.

Four months after the slayings police arrested an 18 year old male on an unrelated charge.  While in custody he confessed to the Osborne murders.  He never went to trial as he hanged himself in his cell shortly after his arrest.
