EDUCATION/WORK
Senior Pastor, Pacific Hills Lutheran
LIFE
We started our ministry in 1973 near Herington, KS after graduating Concordia Seminary, St. Louis. My home congregation is Immanuel Lutheran. We came to this parish in Omaha in 1977; God willing we will retire here. We've been very active in church, community and neighborhood. I am involved in Sertoma (Board), Lutheran Youth Encounter (Board) and I chair the Omaha Mayor's Clergy Advisory Board. I also write for our denomination's publishing house (several projects including a book). I was recently appointed to a Blue Ribbon Task Force by our denomination's president (to study how our 2.5 million member denomination governs itself).
Though I earned my doctor's degree in 1986, I'm still just "Bill". We now live in Bob Gibson's former home just 2 miles from the church. (Bob pitched for the St. Louis Cardinals in the late 60's and early 70's). Come see us or visit our web site www.pacifichillslutheran.org.
Sarah and her husband Jarvis lost their first child at 25 weeks of pregnancy in 2004; as a result Sarah founded an organization called The Gift of Grace (go to www.thegiftofgrace.com) which makes items for preemies (volunteers provide materials and labor--the items are donated to hospitals). They live in Lawrence and are expecting a child in January.
Life is good--we have our faith, our family, each other, friends, music and Omaha. Don't need much else.
Our granddaughter, Zoie Mae Stirn, arrived January 9, 2006. She is joy incarnate.
