EDUCATION/WORK
I continue to live in central Ohio and to teach Spanish at Keyon College. After all these years, I love my work--probably because it allows me to be in touch with the young and to keep on learning about Spain, a life-long passion. I spent much of this summer immersed in reading for two new courses.
LIFE
You may remember that my beloved Jesus Valverde died in 1993 of colon cancer; it's been a comfort to remain in touch with his close friends and his family. This summer I attended the joyful wedding in Galicia of someone close to him. This past year brought the sadness of the death of my University of Kansas mentor Andrew P. Debicki, whose professional support and personal generosity over 37 years made every difference in my life; I contributed an essay on a wonderful Spanish poet--Jose Angel Valente--to a volume in his honor. I see my three sisters---scattered over as many states--as often as possible, not often enough. I remember Lawrence, my friends, and my education there with appreciation and nostalgia. I send you my warmest greeting and hope you all are well. Best wishes to all.
