LIFE
Returning home for our 40th LHS reunion, I can truly empathize with my danish heritage and the Soren Kirekegaard's quote "Life can only be understood backwards, but must be lived forwards".  Wow!  How our perspectives change in life...In July of 1975 we had the LHS 10th reunion, the same weekend my parents were in Cedar Rapids, Iowa for their 40th reunion.  Oh, how old they seemed!!!  The same summer while working in Washington, D.C., I met my future husband, David.  I was surprised to learn he was from Nevada.  I realized people must live there, but it was all foreign and distant to me.  I had never met anyone from Nevada and only knew of its existence from my 3rd grade geography test on Carson City being the smallest state capital.  Now, I love living and raising my family in this diverse state with sagebrush, mountain ranges and Lake Tahoe.  My children are fifth generation Nevadans.

I remember a sunny day in April of 1955 and having to go to my 3rd school in 2nd grade.  How I dreaded going to HIllcrest, but Ms. Powell had Janie Waggoner be my "buddy" and we have been buddies for 50 years!  The wonderful memories and friendships from the Hillcrest days continue on until this day.  From dreading to attend school to 50 years later; grateful, proud and blessed for the friendships and being part of a very special class of 1965.

If anyone could have fast forwarded my life from May 29, 1965--our graduation, Red Dog Inn celebration, and revealed the challenges and losses ahead for me, I would have said, "no way could I endure".  I am a worrier and always fearful of the future, but our perspectives do change.  Thomas Wolfe said "We can never go "home" again".  Thanks to all of you and to Patti and Rick for telling me, "You can always come home, this is your home and we will make sure it still is,"  I realized, due to the care and support of friends we can always go "home" despite the changes in our lives.  Lawrence is where I find my strength and I am truly blessed with being part of the class of 1965.  Thus, my changing perspectives of events in life have been a good thing.  I will adhere to Emerson's message.  "What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies with in us."  Thank you for the care, support and friendship to me and to the wonderful committee for your time and efforts to gather a very special class for our memorable reunions!!
